Dr. Keum Hwa Cha is a violinist, violist and dedicated teacher who has given numerous concerts as a soloist, chamber musician and concertmaster in the United States and in South Korea. She has performed with maestros David Effron, Robert Shaw and Stanislaw Skrowaczewski; Chee-Yun, the Marcus Roberts Trio, Béla Fleck, Time for Three, the Idaho State-Civic Symphony, the Cornell Contemporary Chamber Players, the Binghamton Philharmonic, the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra, and the Seoul Tutti Ensemble. Dr. Cha taught at Idaho State University as an Assistant Professor of Music, and she was an instructor at the Pepperdine University, and the University of Rochester. She has worked closely with public school music directors and youth orchestras and has given frequent master classes to K-12 schools and colleges. Her students have won numerous prizes at a variety of solo competitions and have received music scholarships from Indiana University, Arizona State University, and the University of Oklahoma. Dr. Cha’s pre-collegiate students were selected to play with All-State Honor Orchestras in Texas and Idaho. Her recent performing highlights include Schoenberg’s Pierrot Lunaire, Stravinsky’s L’Histoire du soldat, and recitals of Music of Germany and Rare and Forgotten Chamber Music. Dr. Cha earned her Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music from Eastman School of Music, Artist Certificate from the Meadows School of the Arts at Southern Methodist University, and Bachelor of Music from New England Conservatory of Music. Dr. Cha currently coaches chamber music at JCM (Junior Chamber Music-Conejo &San Fernando Valley) and teaches violin at California Lutheran University. She is a member of Music Teachers’ Association of California.
